Department of Language (English/Hindi/Malayalam)
B.A. English or Bachelor of Arts in English is an undergraduate English language course. It is designed to prepare students to understand and use the English language effectively, build vocabulary and introduce them to current ideas and issues. During the course, the emphasis is also given on Indian writing and the syllabus may see the consolidation of a vision predicated on promoting Indian culture obviously through its literary manifestations. This is the case in all genres of writing: novel, drama, poetry, non-fictional prose. Bachelor of Arts in English is meant for students who wish to do some specialized course in English. The course extends to a period of three years and it is offered by many colleges in India.
English is the study of literature, linguistics and philosophy of the English language.Literature is not every man’s lot. It belongs to the philosopher’s class. Any one can master the languages but aesthetics’ mantle falls on a few selected ones.Literature is a way of life, a religion and a panacea for all your maladies, no matter whether it is physical mental intellectual or spiritual. It is the magic glass to look in to the world with a peculiar eye. Here you travel with minds belonged to classical ages. You get acquainted with a lot of men of wisdom and fall in love with a few like Shakespeare, Wordsworth etc.Literature is a spacious valley.
Let’s go ‘far from the madding crowd’. Here everything seems transitory except human soul. It is eternal and poetry takes it to the heights of the metaphysical ecstasy. So be the followers of visionaries and philosophers, if you are really interested.
